Prayer Is Limitless From God's Perspective

The promises Jesus gave concerning prayer were limitless. His emphasis was on the human activity - ask and receive, seek and find, knock and watch the door open. The implication is that God reacts favorably to the earnestness of His people. There can be no limitation on the divine ability to perform or the divine good will to give. If there is a limitation, it will be on the human imagination or faith. The imagination may be limited by a small conception of God's nature and resources, by a lack of understanding con¬cerning the goodness of God, or by any number of spiritual disabilities. Faith may be limited by inadequate knowledge of the Word of God, by spiritual blindness, and sometimes by inexperience. Much that is experienced in daily living tends to dull spiritual imagination and faith. Jesus chal¬lenged us out of the quagmire of unbelief by giving promises that cannot be bound by human conception; we may ask "whatever" or "anything" (John 14:13-14).        The Doctrine of Prayer, T.W.
